RUDIMENT is a NYC based Ready-To-Wear label founded in 2016 by Ji Cartman.

RUDIMENT is focused on responsible luxury with elements of surprise and comfort. The brand was conceived with the idea of creating an essential wardrobe that any couple can share, wear and cherish. Garments not dictated by stereotypes of gender, size, time or place, but characterized by the wearer’s personality and individuality. Subtle, yet unexpected details turn basics into essentials while bringing out the essence in our fabrics and not suppressing the garment's functionality. The familiar object, or notion of familiarity, becomes personalized.

With an emphasis on modern workwear, we work with every day personal uniforms such as the apron, jumpsuit and shirt. Each garment is layerable, transformable, versatile and multi-functional that any wearer can adopt to his/her own preference. The wearer personalizes these fits to their desired style, shape, preference, time, place and as a result it becomes their rudiment.

x Uniform as identity.

x Uniform as personality.

x That is RUDIMENT — our guiding principle.

To accompany each seasonal collection, we release the Objets Trouvé / Found Objects capsule collection featuring 1:1 limited edition pieces. All found materials incorporated into these pieces are carefully hand selected and curated by the design team. The materials we select are often discarded, no longer appreciated, lost in time, void and forgotten. The creative recollection of this past gives birth to the new form and it’s overall meaning.

This is our way of less is more.
